Forests, mountains, caves, rivers and lakes - forgotten sources of power and portals

Forests, mountains, caves, rivers and lakes - forgotten sources of power and portals to your ancestors and more.

When first humans showed up on the surface of the earth they were deeply connected with nature. The most symbolic and natural religion was animism.

For the ones who don't know what animism is, here is the definition is taken from Britannica:

Belief in innumerable spiritual beings concerned with human affairs and capable of helping or harming human interests.

I found also a better and more wide one:

Animism is both a concept and a way of relating to the world. The person or social group with an ‘animistic’ sensibility attributes sentience – or the quality of being ‘animated’ – to a wide range of beings in the world, such as the environment, other persons, animals, plants, spirits, and forces of nature like the ocean, winds, sun, or moon. Some animistic persons or social groups furthermore attribute sentience to things like stones, metals, and minerals or items of technology, such as cars, robots, or computers.

I suppose that definition will help us more because I want to focus on that connection with nature. As you saw above, everything even the plants or forces of nature can be alive, as any other being. However, personally, I don't agree that every single one is. Some become portals, some become sources of energy to allow the spirits to manifest easier.

Why bring that topic at all?

Because modern society is usually ignoring it. We focus so much on running after our dreams, burn out ourselves in the run for the wishes and dreams which were implemented by society. But did you ever sit down for a moment? Let the world run around. Sit down and look. What do you miss mostly then? Yes. Nature. Nature is surrounding us, and yet we ignore it. Yes, we do keep pets, but we don't go for walks in the forest for hours, most cities don't even have a larger enough forest for that. We don't visit lakes and rivers. We might do that in summer to play and enjoy ourselves, but did you ever do it to calm yourself down? To sit down during summer night next to the fireplace and enjoy the stars and fire? And yet as our life passes out around us, we still ignore it. And when we need it, nature is always here for us.

Doesn't matter if it's to help us or call us, or when we need a place for our magic. Yes, you can connect with elements, or summon specific spirits in specific places...

Can you tell me more about magic and nature?

Elements create everything on the Earth. The most basic ones create nature. Nature and elements are one. So yes you can use first to connect with earth elements, enjoy the presence of fairies and gnomes and any other being related to the forests. You might ground yourself and connect deeper with Gaia herself. You might enjoy yourself with sirens and mermaids in lakes or rivers. You might see water faeries and talk with your ancestors. Use them to communicate with the spirit world, see the messages, and receive the knowledge you seek. During windy days connect with the air element and look for the knowledge of sylphs. Use the caves of the mountains to summon the spirits, as they are the natural gateways, allowing you to summon any being easy. Find a cave to create your own. Your own space for rituals.

Connect with fire energy and djin moving over the earth. Use it for protection. As you might see, the beauty of this world can help you with many things, but most of them has been sacred places for ages.

What about sacred places and sources of power?

Sacred places contain much power themselves. Humans used them for as long, as they can remember. All these prayers and rituals, all of the wishes and dreams are still echoing there. Not in the buildings of churches or mosques but in very older places - forests and rivers. Lakes and mountains. All that energy is still there. Affecting us too. If you are sensitive enough you can feel it. Feel the dark and sad energies, but also love and happiness. You can connect with all of that energy inside of them. And if the guardians of that places will allow you - use this power for yourself.

Sources of power are places where much of power is hidden. Some are natural, some are created. Nature ones and created by humans and can be used by them. But because they contain so much power they could be used for both - harm and creation. This is why places like that are always protected. The guardians depend on the place. I had met several of the - forest spirits, dragons, gods. Every one of them will test you. Be prepared for that. If the prize is worth it, depends only on you.

How yet you can use that places?

I already mentioned you can connect to the elements, and do rituals. Use the power for your own needs. Summoning spirits. But I never mentioned two things - you can connect with the Gaia and her heart (again - if she will see you worthy of that) and summon your ancestors. True ancestors. Oldest ones you will have. If we look into the family trees they go far and far into the past. Probably some sources had been lost, but you might trance them into original gods of the place you leave in. And yes I do mean the ones your culture talks about. For me, living in a Slavic country would be the Slavic pantheon. Some places you are feeling a connection with could be sacred for them. From my own experience - since I was a child I used to walk and spend time on the nearby lake. Later I learned that the lake itself is connected to Kupała, the Slavic goddess of Litha. I never knew that, and yet I felt a connection to the lake. To learn later that yes, she's one of my ancestors. You need to remember that the local gods and goddesses have the strongest connection with the land you are living in. They might help you with many things. Guide you, help you with learning more about yourself. Help you with past lives and support you.

You might want to learn more about that, but everyone has ancestors like that. So now spend your time and find out who is yours. Divination might be the best option if you are inexperienced - but any form of communication will work.
