The herb is often compared to the serpent's tongue, that's why it's also it's another name for it. It's used together with other herbs for healing, its energy isn't very strong, rather soft.

Magical use:

Used to cure bruises, help with kidneys and bladder, prevent infection and speed healing. Can be used for curses and gossip related spells - either to protect or cause it. He can be also used as some sort of charm. Because of its other name - serpent's tongue it can be used in any ritual related to the serpentine energy, either kundalini or serpentine spirits/gods. Also used in vitality spells

Example spell:

You will need a black cord (enough to make 9 knots), alder's tongue, charcoal, matches, white candle and knife/anything to cut the cord. Take a black cord and create 9 knots on it. Light the candle and charcoal, place the plant on it. Then hold the knot on your hands and focus on every negative gossip you heard about yourself and which are affecting you. Push this energy into the cord. Now hold it over burning herb to purify and say " I mean no harm, I mean no evil, release the darkness others send towards me and break it apart, so I can be free from their negative influence" several times. When you will feel ready cut it into two pieces and burn it in the candle.

I didn't personally work with this herb, but it's a very rare one. It only appears between June-August. Growing to only a few cm tall.
