Book of shadows is one of the most important things a witch have. Why? Because it is your personal knowledge that is hidden there. So let's explain it in more detail.

What is Book of Shadows?

Book of Shadows is your own notebook or diary related to your magic path. You can write here all your spells, how they worked, all correspondences you had learned. It helps you learn, and remember things you had learned before.

Why would I want to go back? I can memorize everything I do

Trust me, you can't. I thought a similar thing, because yes, I do have a good memory...but after several years you wouldn't be able to do it. You will want to look into your own notes and see. Sometimes we can change one thing and create an even more powerful spell. Sometimes we want to be back to the spells we used once and they worked. Sometimes we need inspiration. Sometimes it's easier to remember things and bring some new comments to them. Instead of having loose papers with notes (as I have at times) you have one notebook with comments. Trust me random notes are hell to find anything, and yes I am aware of doing that mistake on my own.

How do I make it?

You have a few ways here.

You can buy ready one, but they are expensive and usually have so few pages from my own experience. And yes if you work so much, you will need more than 60 pages. So you have another choice - you can make your own. Either you will use a folder and just add papers there (which is very useful) or you can buy a notebook, where you can add your own pages. You can also buy notebooks every few months or every year. But you will have it way more organized. You can also have a digital one, but that is harder to do. Especially when you want to add their painted images or sigils. I used my one to keep my channelling notes for myself, and I can't do that on digital form, except scanning them.

So the first thing to make is to decide which form is best for you. After that, if you decided on a physical one find the one with which images resonates with you. I had found one with a cover for painting. So yes, I could paint anything on it and decorate it as I wanted. I suggest you find something similar but if you can't find something you will enjoy and feel connected to it, be it the image of the unicorns, forest or simply stars. Anything you need or want.

Once you will have that, cleanse its energy. You can do it with salt and incense. That would be the easiest way even if you aren't experienced enough. Place it in salt for an hour (don't try for longer, salt can destroy also paper if kept long enough) and then move over then White Sage incense. That should prepare it enough.

Then I suggest consecrating it. To do it you will need a basic ritual - you will need a bowl of water, salt, candle and incense.

The first two you already had to cleanse, but this time you will simply move your book over all of your items offering it to the elements and gods related to them. You can use your God and Goddess names, or ask elemental kings for help, but as you move them dedicate the item to the elements.

And now on the last - enjoy your first notes. Plan what you want to add there and what you need to write. I suggest starting with your own story. So once you will need to look back, you will see how much things changed since then.
